It is typically such a secret that we really don't know how many there are.  Suffice it to say that a significant part of the population was sexually abused before the age of 18.  Many never told.  Most did not receive adequate help.  This issue of Grief and Loss Today is dedicated to these largely silent grievers who still suffer.  In it, there is information on how to grieve sexual abuse, why we must make that painful effort and how to protect the next generation of children.

“What were you thinking?” Dr. Phil is famous for asking.  Even though we may laugh, this is an enormously important question.  Self-talk (the thoughts that flit through everyone's brain) can make or break the grief process.  In fact, it is a crucial factor in successful living.  We tackle the subject of self-talk in this issue of Grief and Loss Today; its importance, how we can think our way through grief and how negative self-talk can prevent healing.  Griever or not, you can learn much from this issue.

2. Thinking your way through grief - By Andrea Heeres, MSW
3. Self talk that keeps mourners from healing - By  Larry m barber

The inaugural issue of Grief and Loss Today acknowledges grief is poorly understood in our “take a pill and move on” society and hits the basics.  International grief expert Dr. Alan Wolfelt explains what we need to accomplish through the grief process and other authors answer questions such as what is normal when grieving, how do I make sense out of what has happened and is a grief group right for me.  This issue is a treasure trove for the new griever.
